The Delegation of DRB-HICOM University of Automotive Malaysia Visited USY for Cooperation

On March 13, the delegation, leading by Prof. Haji Omar Haji Osman, Vice Chancellor of DRB-HICOM University of Automotive Malaysia (DRB-HICOM U), visited University of Sanya (USY). Prof. Lu Dan, President of USY, Prof. Nie Peiyao, Vice President and the heads of related schools and department attended the meeting.

To begin with, Prof. Lu, on behalf of the university and himself, expressed his warm welcome to the visiting guests and also briefed on the overall situation of the university and Geely Holding Group and Mingtai Group at the aspect of education. He said the two universities had many similarities in the operation and disciplines building. Not so long ago, Geely Holding Group, the sponsor of University of Sanya, just acquired 49.9% share of Proton Automobile, a subsidiary of DRB-HICOM, and became the exclusive foreign strategic partner of Proton Automobile. Under this background, our two universities would have much cooperation and exchange, especially in the cultivation of talents in automotive industry. Prof. Lu also added that he and his colleagues were eager to visit DRB-HICOM U in the future for further cooperation.

Prof. Omar, Vice Chancellor of DRB-HICOM U, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the USY for the reception. He said HICOM University College Sdn Bhd, 100% subsidiary of DRB-HICOM Berhad, owns and manages DRB-HICOM University of Automotive Malaysia. DRB-HICOM U is a private higher educational institution and aims to cultivate high value-added talents in the automotive industry and improve their professional skills. The university now has Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Faculty of Business and Management, Research Center and other related teaching departments. Also, the university offers foundation programs, diploma programs, bachelor degree, master degree and doctor degree programs in engineering, business management, automotive part management, mechanical engineering technology, accounting, etc. He said, due to the nature of running, the two universities could seek many possibilities for the future cooperation.

After the detailed discussion, both sides agreed upon the following scope of the cooperation: exchange or mobility of students and academic staff, joint research activities, short-term academic programs, etc. Prof. Omar said the DRB-HICOM U would sponsor 200 students via USY to study in DRB-HICOM U. At the end of meeting, both sides jointly signed the cooperative MOU.
