Organized by the Education Department of Hainan Province, the 6th Qiongzhou Cup for International Students’ Chinese Language and Talent Contest was held recently in Hainan College of Economics and Business. 22 contestants from Russia, Korea, Kazakhstan, Indonesia, Congo etc. from universities and colleges in Hainan took part in the Final.

The contest included three parts: Chinese Language Skill Display, Chinese Talent Show and Native Culture Show. At the first part, contestants showed audiences their enthusiasm and pursuit for Chinese language and culture by reciting Chinese poetry and speech. MERVEIL SEGUY LIKAMBIABEKA, the Congolese student from our university, impressed the audiences with his skillful and excellent speech by combining Chinese tongue twister and Hainan dialect, in which he got the highest point at this part. Meanwhile, DIAS AKASHEV, the Kazakhstan student, affectionately recited to the audiences Three Letters Sending to His Hometown, in which he showed his enthusiasm for Chinese and his love for Hainan.

As the night approached, the second and third parts were begun. During these two parts, contestants were versatile and dedicated to their performance in Chinese talent show and their native culture show by presenting audiences Kongfu, calligraphy, dance, song, etc. At the second part, DIAS AKASHEV, sang to the audiences a Chinese song “Nan Shan Nan” in the version of University of Sanya with the guitar. His fluent and natural melody attracted all audiences and was cheered for everyone.

After fierce competition, our international students, MERVEIL SEGUY LIKAMBIABEKA won the second prize, and DIAS AKASHEV won the third prize. Meanwhile, Nana Chen and Yuan Yang were respectively got the Outstanding Instructor Award.
In recent years, with the increasing development of Hainan’s international education a great many international students have come to study at Hainan’s higher educational institutes. The Qiongzhou Cup for International Students’ Chinese Language and Talent Contest has been held for six years consecutively, aiming to promote the multicultural exchange at home and abroad and assisting more international students to become “a messager and envoy of friendship in the dissemination of culture”.
